Compensation for CFS Volunteers

Each year, it seems that South Australia suffers through more and more bushfires.

This often means that we have volunteer CFS fire fighters risking their own health and safety to protect the lives, homes and properties of others.

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, CFS members are often injured in the line of duty.

If you are a CFS member and have been injured while voluntarily performing work, you may be entitled to claim compensation through our Return to Work Scheme.

Under this scheme, volunteer CFS officers are deemed to be workers and are therefore entitled to claim the same compensation as an employee who is injured during the course of their employment.

This means that you may be entitled to payment of your medical expenses and even weekly payments if you miss time from work.

Importantly, in some cases, you may also be entitled to a lump sum payment.

If you have been injured while working as a CFS officer, please contact us to arrange an appointment with one of our personal injury lawyers to discuss any entitlements that you may have.
