On 23 September 2015 DBH Lawyers hosted Garieva Dadleh, an Indigenous Student studying Certificate IV in Legal Services though Port Augusta TAFE.
The day formed part of a week long Adelaide field trip organised by the Law Society of South Australia’s Reconciliation Action Committee.
Garieva was mentored by Kylie Wyatt, a Senior Associate of the firm and Aleksandra Spasojevic who is a solicitor. During the time that she spent with us Garieva was shown important buildings such as the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts, the South Australian Employment Tribunal and other city landmarks.
Garieva also had the opportunity to see DBH Lawyers solicitors appearing in both the Magistrates Court and the South Australian Employment Tribunal.
The other days of the field trip involved activities such as meeting other TAFE SA students, and undertaking workshops and tutorials. The students also attended Parliament, the University of Adelaide Law School, and Federal Court.
This day was a wonderful opportunity for Garieva to observe the running of a law firm and the life of a lawyer. The field trip organised by the Law Society of South Australia’s Reconciliation Action Committee is an event that DBH Lawyers is proud to have supported over a number of years. We consider that it is important to support and encourage these types of programs to encourage and promote diversity within the legal profession.
