Australian Lawyers Alliance supports a Commonwealth Royal Commission

The Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) supports a Commonwealth Royal Commission investigating the allegations of sexual abuse against children by a man who was employed by Families SA.

Premier Jay Weatherill has called for a state Royal Commission to examine the evidence however the ALA believes it would be better for the Commonwealth Royal Commission on Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse to look at the case, rather than setting up a new enquiry.

Patrick Boylen, Partner at Duncan Basheer Hannon and SA President of the Australian Lawyers Alliance says a state-based Royal Commission would be an unnecessary duplication of a Commonwealth Royal Commission.
